Features in Outdoor Kitchens
Outdoor kitchens
are one of the fastest-growing trends in home
design, construction and dining.
Most of us have a modest grill outdoors, but
these days the concept of an outdoor kitchen
means to be able to prepare, store and cook food
outside as effortlessly as in your indoor
kitchen.
Not so long ago, outdoor kitchens were
exclusively used by those who were lucky enough
to live in a year-round warm climate. One of the
recent trends is to try to make the outdoor
kitchen practical and appealing to those who
aren’t blessed with such a climate. Recent
advancements in design have included more
effective weather-resistant materials for
counter tops and other surfaces.
Portability, including carts and islands that
collapse, roll and store easily and heating
devices that are easier to use have all helped
outdoor kitchens become a reality for everyone,
regardless of their climate.
The complete outdoor kitchen has also become
something of a status symbol for those who
already have everything else in their home. Some
luxury home owners are beginning to incorporate
fully stocked outdoor kitchens into their house
plans, as demand and interest continues to grow.
One trend is to have the outdoor kitchen as
functional and as well stocked as your indoor
kitchen. This includes such necessities as a
place for refrigeration, ample storage for food
and accessories, wine racks, and surfaces for
food preparation. And yes, you can have a
kitchen sink in your outdoor kitchen, too.
Experts say this trend will continue so that
literally everything that can be found in a
regular kitchen will also be found outdoors -
many people will simply have two kitchens in
their home.
The current economic climate has helped the
popularity of outdoor kitchens. Research has
shown that many people are dining out less and
placing more importance on eating and
entertaining at home.
There are also an increasing number of cooking
and lifestyle shows on television that have
increased interest in outdoor kitchens.
